07 August 2014 - New multiangle light scattering detector

A multi-angle light scattering detector has just been installed in the lab, connected to a chromatographic system, through a co-funding of the Région Champagne-Ardenne and the ANR project Funlock.

The DAWN HELEOS 2 provided by the WYATT company is built with an infra-red laser and 18 measurement angles, providing high accuracy and limiting artifacts due to sample autofluorescence. Several types of polymers (polysaccharides, lignins, proteins) can be characterized in solution after they have been separated by a size exclusion chromatography, to give their absolute molecular weight, dispersity index, gyration radius, oligomerisation state and glycosylation rate (for proteins). It will soon be coupled to a dynamic light scattering instrument.
