08 – 09 February 2024 - Launch of the CANETE project!

Two days of meetings to launch the CANETE project held in Reims and by videoconference.

The CANETE project of the FairCarboN exploratory program was launched on February 8 and 9, in Reims by videoconference. The project brings together 16 laboratories (Agroécologie, BioEcoAgro, BEF, Eco&Sols, EcoSys, ESE, FARE, IAM, iEES, ISPA, ISTeP, LAE, Laboratoire de Géologie de l'ENS, LISAH, METIS, Silva) and 9 experimental sites, and is led by Gwenaëlle Lashermes, researcher at INRAE.

The aim of the CANETE project is to assess and predict the microbial physiological responses to agricultural and forestry management practices in different contexts, and the consequences for coupling and decoupling between the carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus cycles, notably on soil carbon and nutrient storage, plant nutrient supply and crop production.

Two introductive keynote lectures were given by Andreas Richter (University of Vienna, Austria) and Stefano Manzoni (Stockholm University, Sweden). Jean-Thomas Cornelis (University of British Columbia, USA) and Steven Sleutel (Ghent University, Belgium) also took part, as did the Trees and People territorial cluster, and representants of the French Nationale Agency (ANR) Stéphanie Thiébault, Bahia Maoili and Jean-Baptiste Mascary. The program included presentations, discussions, and workshops, as well as convivial moments to better know each other within this new consortium!
