19 September 2018 - FARE researchers' mission in China

Bernard Kurek and Sylvie Recous carried out a mission to Changchun (China, Jilin region) on the theme of maize co-product management and attended the 70th anniversary celebrations of the Jilin Agricultural University (JLAU) in Changchun.

This mission (07-11 September 2018) was carried out as part of the 5th edition of the Franco-Chinese Environment Month, under the joint initiative of the French General Consulate in Shenyang and the Regional Economic Service (SER) in Beijing. The purpose of this visit at the University of Jilin was to discuss the challenges of using maize straw as a substitute to burning by farmers, an important source of air pollution, and the possible solutions for this large agricultural region in China. It was an opportunity to present the research on soil quality and the circular economy carried out in France, at the national level and in the Grand-Est region, in particular by INRA and its partners, and to consider future collaborations on this theme.
