FARE & SilvaTech collaborate with an Austrian laboratory

A FARE & SilvaTech research engineer visited a lab in Austria to develop a method for analyzing soil amino acids.

This international mobility project, carried out in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Andreas Richter, head of the TER (Terrestrial Ecosystem Research) division at the University of Vienna in Austria

Charlotte Stutzmann, research engineer on the FairCarboN-funded CANETE project, spent 3 weeks on exchange in the TER laboratory. The aim of this exchange was to transfer analytical techniques for the determination of microbial protein depolymerization, to validate the sample preparation steps and carry out tests on soils studied as part of the CANETE project. The objective of Charlotte's work is to develop analytical techniques and study the Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) of soil microorganisms, and initially the rate of depolymerization and microbial assimilation of amino acids. This study is made possible by monitoring isotopically labeled matter in the soil over time.
